Emirates will no longer be holding their worldwide recruitment open days. Instead you’ll initially apply online.

Before you start
When working for Emirates you’ll have to relocate to their base in Dubai. This means that you’ll have to be able to meet UAE visa requirements.
The airline will provide accommodation but there are regulations in place you must adhere to, especially regarding staying out late or having guests visit you. You’ll have to be sure that this would be an environment you’d be happy living in.
There are a few things you’ll need to upload. First is a copy of your updated CV. Make sure it’s saved in either MS Word or PDF format.
You’ll also need to upload photographs:
- One ‘formal’ passport size photo
- One full body ‘formal’ photo
- One full body ‘smart and sophisticated’ photo
- One head and shoulders ‘smart and sophisticated’ photo
The rules are quite specific for the type of photographs you’ll need to provide for Emirates, they have a PDF guide available on their website to explain what they’re looking for.
Step 1 – The Video Interview
At the time of submitting your application you’ll be asked to take part in a short video interview. These are becoming more and more common in online application processes.
The interview is pre-recorded, and done through an online company called HireVue. You can do the interview through your computer, phone or tablet, using the face-to-face or ‘selfie’ camera, and the app can be downloaded here.
You’ll get the chance to complete some practice interview questions so that you can feel comfortable with the system. You can try as many times as you like.
The interview will consist of questions in areas you might expect, like customer service. There will also be questions designed to assess your knowledge of the cabin crew role.

Step 2 – Next steps
After the video interview has been uploaded it will be scanned by a computer programme (along with your CV) to check it meets the basic requirements. Then everything you’ve submitted so far will be assessed by recruitment.
If you’ve been successful you’ll receive an invitation to the next stage, the Assessment Day.
The Emirates selection process is extremely tough, and most candidates on the assessment day will not be called back for a final interview. But even getting
through to this stage is a big achievement!

Step 3 – The Assessment Day
The Emirates assessment day is a lot more in-depth than most. Try to get a good night of sleep beforehand, arrive early, and give yourself a chance to settle in before the day begins.
Candidates will be shortlisted and removed from the process throughout the day, with activities including:
- A presentation about the airline
- A Q&A session with Emirates crew
- Group exercises and discussions
- A reach and height check
- A tattoo check (remember with Emirates you are not allowed to cover tattoos with concealer or bandages, they must be covered by the regulation uniform)
- An English language test (reading, comprehension and vocabulary)
- A personality questionnaire
You’ll be given a choice of dates and locations but will have to arrange your own transport (and accommodation if necessary).
Remember to dress for success – Emirates places high importance on the personal appearance of their crew. Smart business attire is best, and the airline have easy to follow guidelines on their website.
Step 4 – The Interview
The final interview may take place on the same day as the assessment day, at some locations, or you may be called back at another date and time.
If you’ve made it through to this stage then very well done – this is a big accomplishment!

After the interview, recruitment will send your entire file to HQ in Dubai to be carefully considered. Should you be successful you’ll receive a telephone call advising you of the next steps in the process. Hold tight, you’re nearly there!
Step 5 – Final Steps
There are some background and medical checks that the airline will need to make before your offer of employment can be finalised.
For the medical checks you’ll be sent a form for your doctor to fill out and submit to recruitment along with a full medical report.
The standard is stricter than with some other airlines, as it has to meet the UAE working visa requirements too, so if there is anything at all you are worried about it’s best to check this with recruitment at the interview stage.
The background checks involve checking your past employment history, and a criminal record check. You’ll have to provide a police report confirming that you have
no previous convictions due to updated visa policies.
You’ll also need to have a dental report completed, to check that there are no issues that might affect your health at a later date.
If the checks are successful you will be given details enabling you to log in to a restricted section of the Emirates career portal. This will be updated with all the details you’ll need regarding your training and the start of your employment!
