How to Land Your Dream Cabin Crew Job
ongratulations!
You have taken the first step (maybe even before applying) which is doing your research. This is helpful for many a job interview, and certainly can’t go astray with a role for an Airline, whether based on the ground or in the airport. Here are some quick steps to summarise how to make your cant’s into cans and your dreams into plans!
1. APPLY!
You miss 100% of the goals that you don’t shoot, and you won’t receive 100% of the jobs that you are interested in if you don’t apply! It is great to express your interest in your chosen field even if there aren’t any vacant positions being advertised. It shows your motivation, and genuine passion for the industry and any potential roles that may arise. I mean, if you are that enthusiastic that you’d take the time to show your interest when there aren’t any roles going, imagine how motivated and proactive you would be as an employee! This is how you should be thinking- like a boss! We all have to start somewhere, and if you want to eventually become cabin crew, a pilot, or a CEO…you’ll have to start from the bottom. Whether that is working on the ground to end up in the sky or cleaning planes instead of flying them. Once you have your foot in the door in a company you want to work for long-term, the possibilities are endless and the only way is up! (literally)
Motivation is Key
Whether your goal is to be sunning yourself on a beach, or trading your uniform for a power suit in head office; it is essential to keep your motivation (and goals) in sight! I find a good way to stay motivated (and give your mind a break from all that researching, and hustling) is to make an Inspiration Board. This is if I am trying out for more responsibility at work, planning a big holiday or a major life event. It’s the little boost I need to keep me sane, keep my goals literally within sight and makes a sweet treasure to look back on once you are “living” that journey!
Ignore Negativity
This is much easier said than done. No matter who you are, or how much of a fantastic job you are doing…there will always be a “Negative Nancy” who is trying to bring you down! They could be dubious, or just plain jealous. Either way, don’t let them get you down! It could take you a few days, or a few years (or decades) to get there! Either way, the journey is yours to navigate or you can take whichever path you choose. If you want to give up your day job to sail on a cruise ship, or volunteer in Asia- who are they to deter you?! There is nothing, and no one, stopping you but yourself!
Preparation is LifeWorking for an airline has nothing to do with the way you look! Ok maybe a bit. But not as much as you’d think! You could be the most well dressed, eloquently spoken candidate in the room, but if you don’t know a drop of information about the company you are applying for, is there really any point in attending? Yes, it certainly does pay-off to be groomed immaculately, but that is only dash in the recipe for securing a role. You need to be well versed in your field, confident, genuine and above all, authentic. There is no point being who you think the interviewers want to employ. They will not respond as positively as if you were genuinely being YOU! It’s about being yourself, and letting your personality and originality shine through your well-polished exterior. |
