Virtual Reality Cabin Crew!

MetaHuman Cabin Crew are here! Qatar Airways have launched QVerse, a virtual reality platform aimed at their website users.

Website visitors can take a guided tour around Hamad International Airport (HIA) as well as Qatar Airways planes and different cabins. But you’ll have to use your own Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) to do so.

Akbar Al Baker, the Qatar Airways CEO, stated: “With physical boundaries beginning to be challenged by the metaverse on an increasingly larger scale, it is exciting to embrace a technology that enables all travel enthusiasts to enjoy a unique immersive experience of our award-winning products and services.”

What is a MetaHuman?

A MetaHuman is essentially just a virtual character like you’d see in a video game. However, these newer versions are high-fidelity and can look extremely realistic. They bring lifelike human forms into the realm of technology.

Could Real Cabin Crew be Replaced?

Thankfully not! This is just a state-of-the-art technology enabling website users to get an in-depth look at what the airline offers, via a ‘MetaHuman’ member of Cabin Crew.

Qatar Airways is the first international airline to introduce this experience. The 3D human model, called ‘Sama’ – meaning ‘sky’ in Arabic – guides users on a virtual tour through the Qatar Airways passenger journey. But don’t worry! Sama simply narrates a script, and is more a way of showing off the airline’s innovation in a novel way. She won’t be putting any real Cabin Crew out of a job!

Real life Cabin Crew will always be in demand – that’s why airline recruitment has been ramping up so much over the last few months.

All this being said, customer service experience is vital to the Cabin Crew role. Human interaction and the ability to adapt to and tend to passengers’ needs is essential. And in-flight Cabin Crew duties are obviously only able to be carried out by actual humans!
