Not all airlines use application forms, but if yours does, it will look different from those used by other airlines. There will be similarities too.
You can use your CV (it’s a good idea to do one for this reason if no other!) to get your employment history from as this should have an up to date list of dates and roles.
There will be an opportunity for you to show how close a match you are to what they are looking for when you detail what you have done and what you are good at (easier said than done when it comes to getting this right!)
You may receive a paper form to complete, although more companies now use an on-line version. Prepare your answers and check through before copying them into the final form.
If you don’t meet the airlines’ criteria in terms of height, age, medical history, criminal checks etc. then it’s an instant ‘no’.
If your form is in any way untidy, unclear, doesn’t follow instructions or is completed wrongly your application will end up in the bin; don’t give the recruiters an easy excuse to sift you out. |
You may be sent a Job Description and/ or Person Specification document when you apply for an application form (or you may be told where to find it on the website). This will tell you what they are looking for. For example, if it lists as essential criteria ‘customer service experience’ you need to make sure you include your experience in this area somewhere in your application. Provide at least one clear example to show not just that you have done this, but how exactly you did it really well.
Take a look at: Pre-qualifying questions
These are the questions which you must pass for your application to be read and a decision mad about whether to invite you to interview or not.
Here are some examples:
– Are you 18 years old or over?
– Is your height between 5’2 and 6’3?
– Do you have any visible tattoos?
– Can you swim?
– Do you speak fluent English?
– Do you live close to XXX airport (or are willing to travel/ relocate at your own cost?)
– Are you physically fit?
– Do you suffer from claustrophobia?
– Do you have any unspent criminal convictions?
– Do you have a valid passport?
You’ll find expert tips on how to come across at your best in the application form, as well as in the other sections of the process!
