Ryanair Cabin Crew Drinking on the Job
Photos emerge of Cabin Crew on a Ryanair flight downing alcoholic drinks
A 26-year-old Ryanair Cabin Crew member was caught drinking whiskey and rosé wine on a flight from Rzeszow in Poland to London Stansted Airport.
The flight was operated by Lauda Airlines, a Ryanair subsidiary based in Austria.
Video evidence
One passenger filmed the flight attendant ‘necking’ the booze. The male Cabin Crew member was serving alcohol to the person before allegedly deciding to sneakily have a drink too.
The flight attendant was apparently already drunk before this point, and the passenger estimated that he had been drinking for a while before the flight even took off.
It was reported that other Cabin Crew working on the flight appeared unaware of the situation unfolding in the aft galley.
Police on the scene
Police arrested the Cabin Crew member once the plane had landed safely at Stansted. The charge against him was suspicion of performing an aviation function while impaired by alcohol.
Rules surrounding Cabin Crew and drinking can vary. However, in the UK and much of Europe, Cabin Crew are not permitted to drink alcohol for a minimum of eight hours before working a flight.
The flight attendant purportedly recorded a measurement of 50mg per 100ml of breath. The UK drink-driving limit is 35mg per 100ml.
Sacked and awaiting court
Lauda spokesperson announced that the flight attendant had already lost his job. The airline emphasised that the crew member had been in breach of policy.
He will appear in court on 8th June and could even face prison if found guilty.
